Last week, President Joe Biden called on Congress to pass a three-month federal gas tax holiday. Biden said the holiday “can bring down the price of gas and give families just a little bit of relief.”
U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is suggesting a better solution to bring down gas prices.
Saturday, Tuberville posted a video on Facebook calling on the president to allow oil and gas companies to “drill, drill, drill.”
“I tell you what, President Biden,” Tuberville said, “you want to give a holiday for gas and oil? Open the spigots up. Drill, drill, drill. That’s how you can get it done.”
The Alabama senator warned that if Biden did not allow more oil exploration now, a Republican president would in the future.
“And when he’s gone,” he continued, “or whoever the president is in the next few years, and we get a Republican in, we’re going to start drilling anyway.”
Tuberville said this issue was about helping Americans through a rough economy.
“As Republicans, we believe in helping the American people and helping the world,” he argued.
He also blasted Biden for standing in the way of the energy needs in America and the rest of the world.
“President Biden is hogtying the American people and hogtying all of our allies that need oil and gas,” he concluded.
According to AAA, the current average price of gas in Alabama is $4.50.
