Tuberville In the News: Newsweek Op-E: Sen. Tuberville: Expect Biden To Deflect Blame for His Disasters Tonight

Tonight, Joe Biden will come to the Capitol to deliver the State of the Union address. White House advisors have likely been scrambling for months to craft the perfect speech. The stakes couldn’t be higher: it’s an election year, Joe Biden’s approval rating is in the toilet, and a majority of Americans think he is too old to do the job.

Three out of four Americans say our country is headed in the wrong direction. Gas and grocery prices have made everyday life unaffordable for many American families, causing credit card debt to reach an all-time-high. The border has become the top concern for a large number of Americans—Republicans and Democrats alike—as Joe Biden’s refusal to enforce the law has invited criminals, terrorists, and drug cartels to flood our country. Policy disagreements aside, the most pressing concern is whether President Biden is actually capable of delivering an hour-long speech without an ice cream break.

If they hadn’t asked for the job, you’d have to feel bad for President Biden’s speechwriters. Last summer, the White House came up with the brilliant idea of slapping his name on the flailing economy and calling it “Bidenomics.” To no one’s surprise, this terminology only reminded people who to blame when they couldn’t afford gas or groceries. When that failed, Biden turned to “greedflation,” faulting grocery stores and gas station owners for the basic laws of supply and demand. He’s also tried yelling about the diminishing size of Snickers bars and “shrinkflation.”

Don’t expect Joe Biden to mention that inflation is up nearly 18 percent since he took office—with grocery prices up 21 percent, electricity prices up 28 percent, and gas prices up 32 percent. American families are paying $1,109 more per month for the same everyday goods compared with three years ago. Not surprisingly, credit card balances are at a record-high $1.13 trillion as Americans struggle to make ends meet.

There’s no nationwide conspiracy of gas station owners or grocery stores. These prices are a direct result of Joe Biden’s policies. From his $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, to the $1.2 trillion Inflation Reduction Act and the $1.2 trillion “Bipartisan” Infrastructure Deal, Joe Biden has increased our spending by more than $4 trillion—which is roughly what it cost to win World War Two. At the same time, he has shipped thousands of American energy jobs overseas as part of his radical environmental agenda. You can’t print trillions of dollars, restrict energy production, and not expect prices to go up. No matter what Joe Biden claims, Americans are paying higher prices because of his reckless spending.

Biden will continue to blame others for the border crisis he created. He will claim that he negotiated a great “border security” bill and Republicans blocked it. Here is the truth: the Biden-Schumer bill would have allowed up to 5,000 illegal aliens to cross our borders each day—a level never seen or even contemplated in American history—before the federal government was forced to take action and suspend all border crossings. The president may even claim that there is nothing he can to do secure the border, even though he has issued some 94 executive actions making it easier for illegal aliens to come to America. He won’t talk about the real solutions Republicans have put forward, such as the Secure the Border Act, which Chuck Schumer shut down.

I also don’t expect Biden to mention 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley, who was murdered two weeks ago by an illegal alien in Athens, Georgia. Sadly, Laken is just one of many Americans who have been brutally murdered by illegal aliens—and Biden will continue to deny any responsibility for letting her alleged killer into this country. He will also likely ignore the fact that more than 300,000 Americans have died from the flood of fentanyl into our country on his watch. Under Joe Biden, every state has become a border state, and no community is safe from the increased drugs, trafficking, and violence that comes from this phenomenon.

Even the best speech won’t change the fact that Joe Biden’s presidency has been a complete disaster. Just three years ago, we had a secure border, a booming economy, and a decrease in the number of drug-related deaths. Americans were prosperous and secure, and America was respected on the world stage. The contrast couldn’t be clearer. Joe Biden can say whatever he wants tonight, but the American people aren’t buying it.
