As the Department of Government Efficiency continues to look for ways to trim the national debt, there have been large-scale cuts and downsizing of employees in government agencies and organizations across the nation.
Those cuts are expected to extend into the Department of Defense, headquartered at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
Supportive of the move by DOGE and the Trump administration to downsize is U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn).
The Senator offered a clever suggestion to a reporter on Capitol Hill yesterday about the restructuring set to take place at the federal government’s largest agency.
“I wouldn’t be against them taking it from a Pentagon to a Trigon,” Tuberville was quoted as saying. “Cut a couple sides off of it.”
On Tuesday, DOGE received lists of the DOD’s probationary employees. The exact number that could be cut at The Pentagon is not known at this time. However, it has been reported that a DOD memo circulating called for an 8% cut to the department.
According to Fox News, the Pentagon has approximately 950,000 civilian employees and serves around 1.3 million active-duty military service members, as well as nearly 800,000 more who are in the National Guard and Reserve. It has an annual budget of over $840 billion.
